This class will practice respect and kindness all day, everyday. I expect that each and every one of my students come to class ready to go and interact with their classmates. I expect students to be inclusive of others both inside my classroom, at lunch and at recess. I expect all of my students to think before they speak, to treat everyone with kindness and appreciate the differences between them and their peers and to act responsibly at all times. I also expect my students to make mistakes & learn from them, no one is perfect and that is okay! We are all here to learn! I also expect the words like please and thank you to be used regularly and for my students to always encourage one another!
Designing classroom rules and expectations is not something I take lightly, I have designed these rules and expectations to work hand in hand with our classroom layout. Being that students will be working in centers a lot, they need to learn to practice things like good behavior and respect in order to successfully interact with their peers. I believe that in order to have a well functioning classroom, there needs to be a mutual understanding between the teacher, students and parents what the classroom rules and expectations are. Through implementing these rules and expectations, students behaviors will be molded, they will become better classmates to eachother and develop characteristics that will be carried with them for life. By implementing rules like number 5, students will learn the importance of being prepared. They will understand the importance of keeping their things in their designated areas so they can easily find them and be ready for the next subject. They will learn to follow simple instruction and do so without hesitation in order to gather what they need to be prepared for our next activity and the importance of paying attention during class meetings (rule 8) so when it comes time to work on activities, they are ready to go! Rule number 1 was designed with the idea in mind that keeping students mentalities positive, that they will excel. They will develop confidence in themselves to do well and complete the assignments or activities given to them. Such confidence will lead them to help others that may be struggling to understand the concept. Rules like 3, 4 and 7 are in place to encourage students to engage in their learning. However, I do not want students randomly yelling out questions which is why I have rules like raise your hand and wait to be called on included. They need to learn the importance of waiting their turn and giving others the chance to ask their quesitons.
Welcome to my classroom rules and expectations page! Much like you have expectations for me during this school year, I have some for my students as well. In order for us to get through this school year sucessfully, we have to understand what is expected from the students. I believe that in order for me to maintain good classroom management, I have to stictly enforce the rules and expectations I have set for my classroom. Rules and Expectations will be immediately discussed with students on the first day of school after introductions. Parents, we will discuss rules and expectations at back to school night where you can feel free to ask me any questions regarding them that you may have. I have drawn up my classroom rules and expectations after Albert Bandura (1997) and Gordon Thomas (1974). Albert Bandura believed that people learn from one another through observation, imitation and modeling. He believed that his style was a bridge between behaviourist and cognitive learning because it encompasses attention, memory and motivation. Which is exactly what my rules encourage. My rules encourage students to pay attention and listen, to think positively and encourage others and to help their fellow classmates that may not have fully grasped the concept yet. Gordon Thomas believed in teacher effectiveness training (T.E.T) which is the difference between teaching that works and teaching that fails. T.E.T offers teachers the essential communication and conflict resolution skills needed to have high quality relationsihps with their students. I am committed to getting to know, and establish working realtionships, with each and every one of my students so that our classroom becomes successful as a whole, but also for each individual student. Developing a good relationship with each student will help me to better understand what they need from me during instruction and accomodate that for them.

Parents- if at any time you have any questions or concerns about assignments or your student, please contact me via e-mail or the form on our classroom site found under the contact tab. I believe in open communication and will strive to make sure that if there is a concern you have, that it is addressed and a resolution is agreed upon. I will hand out a hard copy of the rules and expectations of the classroom as well as the rewards and consequences at back to school night. A digital copy for you to print at home can be found here.
