Diversity

Diversity will be found everywhere in our classroom, from our learning styles to our students backgrounds, differences will be found all around us. Just like in life! Diversity in our classroom will be discussed, as students may not be aware of their cultural differences, we will spend time getting to know one another and what makes each of us different from one another and also discuss the ways that we are the same! When the holidays come around, I like to discuss with my students their traditions and what their families may do to celbrate the holiday. Or, if they choose not to celebrate the holiday, what they do instead or what holiday it is that they choose to celebrate! This is done to help students to see and understand the cultural differences between them and their peers when it comes to holidays, and even birthdays. We will also have to learn as a class how to work with people who are different than us and how we can learn from them and teach them as well.

There is also diversity that will be seen in learning styles among students, we have to work together as a class to make sure everyone in our class is successful. I will be doing my part to accomodate student needs and I hope to teach my students how to be considerate of others needs and to lend a helping hand to them when they can!

Throughout my education, both in Psychology and Education, the importance of diversity has been discussed at length. I have taken courses on how to work with children from diverse backgrounds when counseling them and also how to consider different cultural backgrounds when planning lessons. Each culture has different views on education, it is my goal as an educator to help all my students see and understand the importance of education and encourage them to do well!
